PASS:ON

I feature in a short film from 2009 called Pass:on, by Pablo Magee, in which four visual Artist were given little over two min and 8x1.5m fresco to create an image of our passion. Each of the visual Artists was twinned with a musician, who did the similar thing. I was put together with BAFTA winning composer John Altman.

Recycling Art Symposium, Hartberg

I have attended the International Recycling Art Symposium in Austria, Hartberg, from 2nd to 10th November. The purpose of this symposium was to develop the concepts for upcoming Recycling Art Festival. Artists from Europe created various concepts, where the impact was put on sourcing the materials locally, possibly recycled or environmentally friendly. Part of our eco-related research was a meeting with Austrian Director Werner Boote to discuss issues raised in his new film Plastic Planet. The exhibition followed in the Museum of Hartberg, for which I created a set of proposals, with a touch of humour. “Food Trays”, “Poo Trays” and an “Animal” which is responsible to eat the food and do the rest too. All materials I used were found in the Ecopark in Hartberg, so I guess carbon-neutral art! Click here and here to see images of my models and find out more about my participation.

Czechin’ London documentary, Riverside Studios, London

Six amazing creative Czechs and I appeared on a big cinema screen. The screening of Czechin’ London documentary (28min) took place during the New Czech Film Festival on 14th November. The film was done by two talented Czechs, Tomas Dolezal and Marta Svobodova, and organized by Dynama OS. It tells seven stories of young people living in London and planning their future. It was a huge pleasure to meet such a nice bunch of people during this project! Click here for more information.

Spit'n'Scrub

Open Studio Weekend Spit’n’Scrub is coming in September. It’s our first ever open studio event in our Unit 3 ASC studio complex, in an old industrial printers’ site, Empson Street, Bow, E3 3LT. I love it, love it, love it there! There is a lot on offer: you can see me in my studio (no. 4), there are workshops for those more creative ones, and we are doing a fundraiser for local charity Bromley by Bow Trust too. Come and top up your art collection and support the charity at the same time, as 10% from the sales goes to them. For so much more to see go to www. unit3.org.uk or just call me.

O.S. Dynama film

Oh my gosh… I had a filming crew from O.S. Dynama visiting my studio. They have put together a team of young people that moved from Czech Republic and Slovakia to London and would like to share their stories about their experiences living in England. A short film is being produced, followed by a talk during the Czech Film Festival in Barbican, which will take place in mid November this year. I hope to work with them again.

Hurrah, back to painting!

I’ve nearly finished my new painting New Golden Seed. This time I’ve chosen to use a wooden board, and cut it to 1.2m circle. I tried to add a 3D feel to my painting by using various fibres, white synthetic hair and also human hair. The golden sheen is slightly showing from under layers, and white spots with red dots are full of contrast. You can see the painting and read how it has been progressing by visiting my blog or click here to see it in my portfolio.

Our Shop

I’ve exhibited in Our Shop in Kilburn. Our Shop is a unique art project created by Antony Dominici and Ben Nathan. It was a temporary shop gallery, where the community could come and make art, and events were put on with artwork by chosen artists. I produced a piece of wall art, Dust and Hair Painting and an Installation with Brushes. To see the Hair and Dust Painting click here for my portfolio, or here to view it in my blog.

New From the Bottom of the Sea sculpture series

I’ve been busy in my studio making the new sculpture series From the Bottom of the Sea and have just finished the 6th one. They are inspired by my visits to the seaside, rivers and lakes. Some materials I collected during those visits were used during the sculpting process or are present in the finished pieces themselves. You can see my new series clicking here.

Venice and Eisenstadt were the last cities visited by the touring exhibition of EU-Art-Network Symposium, Dreaming Europe – Real Europe, featuring one of my sculptures. In Venice it was part of La Biennale 2009 and took place in the Palazzo Albrizzi between 24th October and 23rd November and in Eisenstadt, capital of Burgenland, Austria, it happened between 29th October and 15th November. More news to follow as the exhibition continues its journey through Europe and I hope to be present at some of the Private Views.

New Studio

I moved studio to a new location much closer to my house, which allows me to cycle to it and save many hours a week! The new, larger studio is in Bromley-by-Bow, right next to Devons Road DLR station. Now that I'm settled in, looking forward to many happy hours spent there and many new sculptures made!

Back from Linz!

I've just returned from EU–Art–Network symposium, Linz 09 where I produced two sculptures over 10 days. It was a very intense and exciting experience to work towards the deadline of the opening of the exhibition in Traun City Gallery, just outside Linz. The turnout for the private view surpassed all expectations and one of my sculptures (Cocoon 2) was sold, while the other will be part of the exhibition touring Europe for two years (next stop: Venice!). It was great to meet and work alongside so many excellent European artists and I hope to have the possibility of participating again next year! See my Portfolio and Links pages for photos and more details.

EU–Art–Network commission

I am very pleased to announce I'm currently working towards the EU–Art–Network symposium which will take place in Linz, Austria, between 20th and 30th August. The event is part of the Linz—European Capital of Culture 2009 programme and it will be a very exciting opportunity for artists of all EU countries to come together and produce artworks which will then form an exhibition touring major cities of all those countries for two years. Check back often for news and pictures of this event and my artworks!
